Matt sent me a link to this NY Times article unsure if the image used was made out of plaster or something else. A quick Google search later revealed it to be the gorgeous sculpted work of Kate MacDowell, who sculpts each piece out of porcelain. Chosen for its “luminous and ghostly qualities as well as its strength and ability to show fine texture,” I think it’s a brilliant material for her subject. She takes a disturbing image and makes it quietly beautiful. Check out her portfolio in full to be blown away.
